Instrumental Music Program
Music education in schools is critical as it enhances cognitive development, emotional intelligence, and creativity. By fostering discipline, teamwork, and cultural appreciation, it equips students with essential life skills and promotes academic achievement. Moreover, music offers stress relief and lifelong enjoyment, shaping well-rounded individuals who appreciate the arts and contribute positively to society.
12 years of bringing music to students
TeamWork launched its Instrumental Music program (IMP) in 2013, drawing inspiration from Venezuela’s El Sistema program. The founders envisioned music as a catalyst for social development, emphasizing its ability to convey values such as solidarity, harmony, and mutual compassion, while also uniting communities and expressing profound emotions.
For years, the Palm Beach County School District lacked funding for band or string programs in elementary schools, only allocating resources to general music classes.
Starting in 2013, TeamWork bridged this gap by providing instruments and supplies to Title I elementary schools interested in implementing band or string programs. As these programs thrived, supported schools experienced improvements in their ratings, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among students. TeamWork’s support expanded to several Title I middle schools, and as instruments required maintenance over time, the organization also funded tune-ups and minor repairs.
In the aftermath of Covid-19, a significant influx of federal funding from the stimulus relief package became available for the purchase of musical instruments. Palm Beach County schools utilized these funds to launch band and string programs in over 30 elementary schools, in addition to those already supported by TeamWork’s IMP. Furthermore, a 1-cent Palm Beach County sales tax further sustains these programs for an additional 5 years, pending voter approval for renewal.
With the evolution and expansion of these programs, the needs of band and string initiatives have also shifted. The growing student population now requires additional support in the form of “consultants” (referred to as AIRs – Artists in Residence) for supplemental instruction. These professionals, vetted by the district, provide individualized instruction to small student groups within classrooms. This reflects the changing needs in the classroom and reinforces our commitment to music education.

Over 60,000 Students attend Palm Beach County Public High Schools.
The Growth in our Community
The population of Palm Beach County, Florida in 2022 was 1.5 million, 14.7% up from the 1.3 million who lived here in 2010(census data).
Jobs grew by 15,461 over the last 5 years and are projected to grow by 32,382 over the next 5 years (Beacon Council).
The goal is to educate the students of Palm Beach County, thereby creating a pipeline to fill jobs within the community.
To achieve this, we have forged a partnership with Palm Beach State College, to create a cohort of Teamwork scholarship recipients.
Specially designed opportunities will be afforded to area students including but not limited to, academic support, career counseling, financial aid assistance, tutoring, specialized support to secure internships, and more.
This will enable these students to embark on their careers upon graduation or pursue further education. We will focus our program on the Palm Beach Gardens Campus and their highly respected AA, AS and Workforce programs.
