ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS

Elementary Schools Scholarships and Leadership Program. TeamWork has in place a scholarship and leadership club program in Title 1 elementary public schools in Palm Beach County. Here’s how the program works. The Palm Beach County Public School District Regional Superintendents nominate Title 1 elementary schools in their areas to be designated as TeamWork USA Schools for the Elementary School Scholarship and Leadership Program. These schools have up to 95% or more of their students who qualify for U.S. Government subsidized meals. If a nominated elementary school is selected, the school principal requests teachers of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to nominate students in those grades to receive these scholarships. In order for a student to qualify, the student must be socio-economically disadvantaged, perform well in school in all ways, and have family support emotionally and academically. If not for this program, these disadvantaged students would very likely never have the opportunity to attend college or technical school after high school graduation.

The school principal chooses a scholarship selection committee made up of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers and specialty teachers. The student nominees are reviewed, and five students are selected for the award of college scholarships of $1,000 each, plus accumulated income until the scholarship is claimed, for full time attendance at a 2 or 4 year college or university, or technical/trade school, in Florida. A scholarship Awards Ceremony is conducted for the award and presentation of these scholarships, viewed by all students in each school.

Each student who receives a TeamWork scholarship becomes a member of a TeamWork School Leadership Club, co-sponsored by a school teacher. These students are taught how to become leaders and they practice their skills by being placed in high profile positions in their schools, including becoming involved in public speaking, announcing public address messages, learning about and visiting local colleges and universities, and more.

This program improves not only the attitudes and the learning culture of the student scholarship recipients, but also for other striving students, their families, and the school teachers and staff.

This program currently awards 50 scholarships of $1,000 each, to striving students in 14 Palm Beach County Title 1 elementary schools.
